That stuff you're afraid to talk about...the sin you think is too messy? We unpack that here...

Through good and bad, sadness and joy, my heart lies with showing the goodness of God in all seasons. Especially the messy ones.

There is                  in the chaos,

Every day society tells us that life has to be perfect and orderly to be beautiful. Our day-to-day should be a nothing less than perfect. We need a flawless aesthetic, a five year plan and perfectly curated social media. There's nothing glamorous about disorder and uncertainty. It's not "normal" to struggle.

But God wants to use those ugly parts, too. Those broken memories, those hidden struggles, and those less than beautiful moments.

God wants to use the ugly stuff, too...

We all know that disappointment is part of life. But explaining disappointment to a four year old is a bit different than understanding it as an adult. I’m not sure if it’s experiencing years worth of broken promises and empty words from people who weren’t supposed to let me down. Or if it’s from a […]

Teaching our Children Life Lessons

I have never been a “life of the party” kind of person. I’ve never been one who would randomly walk up and introduce myself to someone I’ve never met (which explains why I’ve yet to attend a Blog Conference). I don’t go out on a limb when it comes to acquiring new friends or expanding […]

Motherhood Robbed me of my Social Skills

I mentioned the other day that the most frequent question we (well, more me I think) were getting from people was whether or not we are disappointed that we are having another boy. People who barely know us have given looks of what seems like sympathy when we say we are having another boy. People have […]

Brothers

I’ve always been one of those people who takes extra precaution when talking to people. I don’t assume someone is pregnant just by the way they look. I don’t generally ask people when they are planning to have kids and/or add to their family. After struggling for a year trying to get pregnant with Jonah and […]

Things You Don’t Say to a Pregnant Woman

It’s no secret that the most common question asked to soon-to-be mom’s is: Are you guys hoping for a girl or a boy? Since we already have a little boy, I typically get asked if we’re hoping it’s a girl. Or either people assume that we would only want a girl. I’ll be honest… I won’t […]

Thoughts on the Baby’s Gender

Well, hello! Contrary to popular belief I am still alive and kicking. (Actually, the baby is doing most of the kicking these days, but you know what I mean.) I’ve had a hard time getting going again since we returned from our two week mini-vacay in Anchorage. I never thought that just hopping on a plane, […]

Life as of Late

Don’t you guys love those moments in life where you get all philosophical and life just starts throwing these deep thoughts your way? Maybe it’s the island fever lifting, but that’s how I’ve felt the last several days. Having time to sit in silence while Noah naps and Josh is in class have led me […]

Realize

I’m already amazed at how much I’ve grown to love this tiny little baby growing inside me. I know that she (or he…I’m just using the general she terminology) is no bigger than an olive right now and wouldn’t even fit fully in the palm of my hand, but knowing that this little person is […]

How Much a Heart Can Hold

I had an entirely different post prepared for today. Had a post about how full of love and excitement my heart has been these last few weeks. And then we had a situation arise here on Kodiak that changed our day a little bit. I’m sure some of you saw the news. That there were […]

When Other Things Matter

These last two weeks have been a bit of whirlwind around our house. The husband made rank and found out he was advancing in May or June; which is such a blessing. He works so hard and loves what he does so much. It makes me happy to see him succeed doing something he loves. […]
