12 weeks 2 days! Bye, bye first Trimester (depending on which date you go by…in which case I’m going by the date of my LMP)!
The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby’s brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce. (via Baby Center)
Not sure about the weight gain. I had only gained one pound before we left Kodiak and my appointment is next Tuesday. So we’ll see how much the dining out and trips to Marble Slab & Baskin Robins have impacted my weight gain.
Sleeping okay when I actually sleep. I’m waking up every two to three hours to go to the bathroom. I thought that was supposed to stop after the first trimester? I think it’s gotten worse. But, when I sleep, I sleep deep.
Yep. Like I mentioned last week, I don’t really have to wear Maternity pants, but they are much more comfortable right now than regular jeans and the belly band. The pair that I bought are a little big because my belly isn’t quite big enough to really need them, but I haven’t worn regular jeans since I bought my maternity pants and don’t plan to. Whoever said these things weren’t comfy was lying. I am still wearing regular shirts, but I’m particular about which ones.
Hmmm…nothing baby related this week really. Bought a few gender neutral onesies for the baby and made a trip to Babies-R-Us. I’d have had much more fun in there if I knew whether this little bean was a boy or a girl. Mother’s Day was great! We had breakfast/brunch at IHOP and dinner at Olive Garden. Husband & Little Man bought me an iPhone (which is waiting for me back in Kodiak when we get there!) and I picked up a cover for my MacBook. I (reluctantly) bought an Otterbox for my iPhone, but I’m in debate as to how much I’ll use it. All of you iPhone-rs out there, what case do you use?
Not craving anything, really. I’m back to that phase of not being able to find anything that I really want. I’m hungry all the time, but nothing (and I really mean nothing) sounds appetizing. I eat because I have to but despite all of the yummy food here in Anchorage, I’m not finding much that I really want to munch on. I am, however, craving Ice Water. Really, really cold water. That’s got to be a good thing, right?
Still no aversions. Just a general “I can’t find anything I like” kind of mood.
Don’t know yet…What do you think?
Hearing the baby’s heartbeat at our next appointment and I’m slightly looking forward to going back home. I’d give anything for “home” to be somewhere other than Kodiak, but we can’t really change that. I miss my bed and my pillows and my own bathroom. I really do hate living out of hotels and places that aren’t mine. It’ll be nice to be back in our space.
Missing not having to buy clothes based around a growing belly. But, I think that’s only because we’re in Anchorage and there are lots of places to shop. 🙂 Thankfully, there are lots of places to buy Maternity clothes here, too, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much.
May 22.
Being in Anchorage has definitely worn me out. I knew that when we got here we’d go nonstop; shopping and eating and basically just enjoying life away from Kodiak. I haven’t reached my limit on how many times I can go to Target yet, so I still have a few more trips planned before we head out. But, as with all vacations, it will be nice to be back in our house and on a normal schedule.
Hello Second Trimester!
Nice update, you look great!
You look so great! And I’m right there with you on not finding anything appetizing. I’m still having such a hard time eating and as a result am not eating enough (or very well, for that matter). Sigh.
Looking forward to hearing what you’re having!
You’re looking really good! I totally know what you mean about nothing sounding appetizing — I’m totally at that point now too. I never had a problem with that first pregnancy but this time… So glad to see you’re looking well!
Adorable bump! I can’t believe you’re already just about out of the first Trimester [I go by 13 weeks, but I know everybody/everywhere goes by different weeks between 12-14 weeks]!! I have to say though, my need to use the bathroom never decreased or went away when I hit my 2nd trimester. If anything, it got worse. I’ve been LOVING ice, ice cold water [any drink I have has to have a lot of ice, but I try to stick to water more then anything], so I am sure that doesn’t help frequent trips to the bathroom – Especially at night. No matter how much I drink during the day, most nights I am SO THRISTY and I chug a big ol’ glass of ice water as we crawl into bed. It’s the worst, because I know I’ll be up throughout the night peeing. Not complaining though!
I also had to go into maternity clothes around 12 weeks this time around – But once the bloat went away and my belly moved up more, I was able to squeeze back in non-maternity clothes. I am almost 27 weeks and I’ve been able to squeeze into some non-mat pants/shorts for 4-6 weeks now. . . The muffin top isn’t very attractive, but living in HI having that extra thick fabric on me makes me SO MUCH hotter!! Other then that, I find maternity clothes very comfy too. . .
And as for the iPhone case. . . I use an Otterbox. It is ALWAYS on my phone. I only take it off at night, when there are no toddler hands around and I am resting on the couch, to clean the case and my phone a bit. When I bought my phone, the sells guy had an otterbox on his iPhone and he literally tossed it over his shoulder onto the ground with no damage. Having a 2 year old around – I think it’s the best thing for my iPhone [and I admit that I am a phone dropper, as hard as I try not to be]. I would LOVE to have one of those fun and cute cases – But more then that, I would love to keep my phone NOT shattered 🙂
I’m just jealous you HAVE a bump! (and a cute one, at that!)
I’m just feeling a little extra “chub” around the middle … hoping baby will POP out there soon!
~Bec 🙂
Awww you’re looking so cute – glad to hear you’re doing well.
You look so cute! Isn’t it amazing how much you show fast the second time around?!
You are simply adoralbe!!
