She’s starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they’ll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby’s heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic “tail” is completely gone. Your baby’s organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won’t be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won’t open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby’s basic physiology is in place, she’s poised for rapid weight gain. Total weight gain:
Still up and down depending on the day. This morning when I weighed I was up 1.5 pounds, but yesterday I was down 1 pound. Between the morning sickness and the spells of feeling like I’m completely famished and have to eat right away.
Sleep:
Still sleeping just fine. Getting up every couple of hours to go to the bathroom.
Maternity Clothes:
Nope. No maternity clothes yet. Still just the belly band on my jeans.
Best moment of the week:
The husband had a few days off work (which is why I’ve been completely absent the last few days (that and the fact that I’m completely exhausted). We’ve been able to just relax and talk and catch up, since we’ve barely seen each other over the last week and a half. The Coast Guard shooting took its toll our here so we’ve been trying to get back to a normal existence.
Food cravings:
I’m still battling between all day sickness and food cravings. This week, I’ve craved Vanilla Milkshakes and Glazed Donuts. Since we don’t have any kind of donut place here on the island and have to rely on whether or not the Safeway has any fresh donuts or if I can find any at Walmart. They aren’t as good as Krispy Kreme, but beggars can’t be choosers right?
Food aversions:
Nothing so far. I thought about drinking a cup of coffee the other morning when I got up and the thought of hot coffee made me kind of gag. But cold coffee (Decaf White Mocha Frappacino, anyone?) doesn’t bother me.
Symptoms:
Morning Sickness that lasts all day long. I can’t really shake it but as long as I eat at the first thought that I’m hungry, I can keep it at bay. The doctor prescribed me some Zofran at my last appointment, but I haven’t had to take any yet (which is good since I haven’t even had a chance to have it filled).
Acne. I have never had issues with my skin breaking out, but I’m looking like a hormonal teenager again these days. Fortunately, my breakouts are isolated to one general area (my chin) and I’ve been able to keep it somewhat under control as long as I keep my face washed 2 or 3 times a day.
Gender:
Don’t know yet…though several have already started making guesses. What do you think?
Noah’s take on the Gender:
He still thinks it’s a girl. Though he did inform us the other day that he wanted both a boy and a girl. I think we’ll just take it a baby at a time for now.
What I’m looking forward to:
Still looking forward to knowing if this baby is a boy or a girl. I started another Pinterest Board dedicated to things for this baby (including ideas for a gender reveal cake and the baby bedding that I want). I’m getting a new laptop in a week or two to take with me to Anchorage so that I can get some work down while we’re there. Really excited about spending Mother’s Day in an area where they have both a Target and an Olive Garden.
What I miss:
Dr. Pepper. I’ve cut back on my caffeine intake for health and baby safety reasons, so we aren’t even keeping caffeinated drinks in the house. I’m pretty sure I could drink a Dr. Pepper the size of my desk right this second. #justsayin
Next Appointment:
May 21.
Sorry for the lack of quality photo this week. I took this today on my iPad. I haven’t pulled out the big camera since last week. I’ll try to snag a better shot for 52 Faces this week, but I can’t make any promises. As you can see from this weeks photo compared to last weeks, I’m not nearly as bloated (thankfully) as I was.
