I don’t know how many of you out there follow football, but Monday night was a big night for us Crimson Tide fans. Our beloved team beat LSU 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game, bringing home National Title #14 for us Bamers. It was a great night to be a SEC Football fan.
So, when it came time to take pictures this week for my 52 Faces challenge, I knew that getting Little Man all dressed up in a bit of Alabama attire would be necessary. After all, this is the second National Championship for the Tide since he was born. I’m beginning to think maybe he brings them a little bit of luck.
If you’ve been following the weather you know that we’ve gotten some crazy weather here in Alaska these last few days. Parts of the state are snowed in completely, though thank goodness, not here. We have gotten quite a bit of the white stuff this week. At the end of last week we got about 6 or 7 inches. Then Monday it started snowing in the afternoon and didn’t stop all night, putting a good 13+ inches down. The rain came in, melting a lot of it, but there’s still plenty on the ground and the temperatures are frigid.
I made up my mind that I was going to try to take ALL of these 52 Faces pictures in the same place: out on the peninsula here on our base. It overlooks the water and the mountains sit perfectly in the background. I thought it’d be fun to see the background and the scenery change over the next 52 weeks just like it will be fun to see Noah grow and change. I almost didn’t try to tackle it today because of the weather. It wasn’t snowing, but the wind was blowing at gusts of 40 mph, and I wasn’t sure that it would be the ideal weather to try to take pictures in.
Needless to say, I gave it a whirl anyway.
The husband drove us out, and Little Man and I trekked out to our spot through 7 inches of snow and slush to snap a few photos. I made the husband stay in the car (Little Man would have insisted on a snowball fight if daddy had gotten out of the car). The wind slowed long enough to grab a few photos and Little Man, per his usual, thought that throwing snow at me would be a better idea than posing for pictures.
It’s hard to believe that by the time these photos are complete my baby boy will be four and we will have lived in Alaska for two years already. Projects like this seem to make time go by so much faster.
Thanks to those of you who linked up last week! I was excited with the turnout so soon after starting! I received a few emails from a few of you who are excited for the challenge and the project itself. It will be fun to watch your families grow over the coming weeks and months.
I’m starting my Feature Friday up again this week and have a few bloggers lined up for the next few weeks, so the 52 Faces link will go live every week on Thursday at midnight ET and close Wednesday the next week at noon, ET. Be sure to grab the button and link up!
You are SO brave to do this outside in the same location every week. My project would fail MISERABLY if I had to go outside to do it and brave the elements once a week. Hats off to you… (or maybe, I’ll keep my hat on. It *is* winter!)
Needless to say, I didn’t make it out there this week. The wind and the temperatures are CA-RAZY. Now that I’m getting my new camera with better ISO capabilities, I’ll be much more inclined to take photos indoors. Stay warm!
I love this! I love how his beautiful eyes shine stand out so clearly against the white snow.
Thank you , Jessica! I’m afraid his eyes are going to break some hearts one day!
Congrats on your win! His eyes are so striking!
Thank you, Nessa!
Love that last shot. Adorable!!
Thank you, Sarah!
[…] are your favorite 3-year-old boy books? Don’t forget to come back and linkup to this weeks 52 Faces! Linky will stay up until next Wednesday at noon, ET! Looking forward to seeing those photos! […]
He is just adorable! It will be fun to see the difference between his pictures next year and this year! Congrats again on the win (although Sean would say this makes #9 for you) 😉
LOL Leave to an Auburn fan to say something like that (totally kidding). I’m excited to see how much he grows over the next year!
So sweet Courtney – love that last shot.
Thank you, Ashley!
