That stuff you're afraid to talk about...the sin you think is too messy? We unpack that here...

Through good and bad, sadness and joy, my heart lies with showing the goodness of God in all seasons. Especially the messy ones.

There is purpose behind the

There is                  in the chaos,

Mess,

there is meaning in the

Every day society tells us that life has to be perfect and orderly to be beautiful. Our day-to-day should be a nothing less than perfect. We need a flawless aesthetic, a five year plan and perfectly curated social media. There's nothing glamorous about disorder and uncertainty. It's not "normal" to struggle.

But God wants to use those ugly parts, too. Those broken memories, those hidden struggles, and those less than beautiful moments.

God wants to use the ugly stuff, too...

Back home in Alabama, right in the middle of downtown hidden off behind a few buildings near our city Civic Center, there stands a rickety old set of stairs. It’s like something out of an 80’s horror movie if you want me to be perfectly honest. It’s all rusted up and creaks and clangs when […]

Guard Their Spiritual Journey

Guarding our family's Spiritual Journey | Courtney Kirkland

Since the beginning of COVID-19, I have been absolutely unhinged by how clearly and how loudly God will speak when we are actually listening to Him and listening for Him. It’s almost as if COVID-19 helped to strip away everything that was clouding our faith and cluttering our lives. Although the things that it took […]

Blessed are the Gatekeepers

From the time that I was a child, I have always wanted nothing more than to change the world. Despite knowing its significance and its impact on my children, most days motherhood doesn’t fulfill me. That’s a truth that I have written about before and COVID-19 brought all of those feelings to the surface again. […]

Change the World

I had to go to school last week and pick up my youngest boy’s leftover school supplies. The leftover pencils, crayons, and workbooks that he wouldn’t have a chance to finish using. Inside the bag of supplies, his sweet teacher handed me, while wearing gloves and a mask…stretching to reach my car so as to […]

Today, I chose to Grieve

When I was 13, I assumed my parents knew everything. At 17, I thought I knew everything. Then, when I was 21, I realized that I knew nothing. Now, at 32 (I think…let me do the math…yep 32 till July), I realize that knowledge has much more to do with life and experiences than books and degrees. I […]

Walking in Disobedience

A few days ago a friend said something to me that I haven’t been able to shake. I have thought about it. Pondered it. Prayed about it. Journaled about it. Not many things stick with me like that. I typically let things roll off my back and keep a very thin file of things said. […]

Embracing your Battle Scars

I don’t know if you have noticed, but the world is in a major upheaval right now. Businesses have closed. Travel plans…cancelled, if not banned by the government. Schools are shutdown, some for the remainder of the school year. Cities are on lockdown. People are fighting over toilet paper. Surgeries? Cancelled. Life is, well, unsteady […]

*Alternately titled Five Books worth Reading During the COVID-19 pandemic.* I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I devoured the entire American Girl book collection back before there were even dolls to go with the stories. Goosebumps, Saddle Club, and Babysitters Club books were my forte and I read […]

Books To Read During the COVID-19 Pandemic

You’re not the friend I thought you were.  Sometimes, I feel naive and foolish for believing that friendships could span the distance. 3,000+ miles is a long way. I thought that maybe this time it would be different. We raised babies together. We cried together. We laughed (a lot) together. Your family was my family […]

Broken Friendships

Last night, millions of people all around the country watched what is deemed one of the biggest sporting events of the year: The Super Bowl. In all honesty, not as many people care about the teams playing as they do the commercials and the coveted entertainment slot known as the half time show. You’re only […]
