Nothing makes this little boy happier than a day in the snow. You’d never know that he was born in Florida and spent a better part of his life enjoying warm temperatures, ridiculous humidity and the beach scene. While he adores the water and being near the ocean, this kid loves the snow. Sledding, snowball fights, snowmen…you name it and he’s game. He never hesitates to throw on his “big boy boots” and grab his sled for some playtime with daddy or the big kids next door.
And that big mountain of snow in the top right photo? That’s what our cul-de-sac looked like a little over a week ago. They pile the snow from the roads up in the middle of our street to get it out of the way. It was all of 15 feet high and 16 or so feet wide. Massive. Absolutely massive. I took that photo for perspective’s sake. Just so everyone could see how big it was. Our families in Alabama have never seen snow like this. It’s insane. But also one of the most beautiful and peaceful things I think I’ve ever experienced. There is just something about peaceful undisturbed snow covering the earth.
This life we live here in Alaska is growing on me…
This place is growing on me…

We had a white Christmas here in Birmingham last year and my kids were AMAZED … there wasn’t even 1/2 an inch of snow! That looks awesome — it’s what I grew up being from New England. Throw a snowball for me, would you?
He looks so happy in the snow! I love living on a cul-de-sac for that exact reason in the winter. Who needs a backyard when there’s a big snow pile full of kids in the front!
Oh how i would love the snow for the holidays .. i am trying to create the whole Christmassy feel ALL over the house in FL … but know i would be over the cold by Jan1st 😉
Just wonderful shots, yes, those eyes, gonna break a few hearts xxx
We lived in Tampa for 3 years, so I understand completely how hard it is to make it “feel” like Christmas when the humidity is steady at 100%! Hope you guys at least get a break in temperatures this week!
I remember the quietness, that comes with everything covered in white. Just a load falling off the tree or the roof of the house. Ghe, I really miss the winter, well, sometimes at least. 😉 But on Xmas I will, for sure.

What amazing pictures! We don’t get that kind of snow in South Carolina either.

I most definitely will. I remember getting snow in South Alabama a few times growing up and thought it was the most amazing thing ever.
I don’t know if it’s the snow, your photography skills, or just plain nature, but his eyes are beautiful. Simply beautiful.
You live in Alaska – wow!
Aww, thank you! He gets his eyes from his daddy…I’m afraid he’ll break a few hearts when he’s older.
Yep! We live on Kodiak Island! Been here since January.

Exactly! The giant snow pile is much better!

Oh do I ever know this snow love! It’s BIG, isn’t it? This is stunning, as always, dear friend! xo
It is! I never knew it as a kid, but it’s so fun! Who knew kids could love it so much?

Such beautiful pictures! As a girl who grew up in AZ, I’m always amazed when I see so much snow!
WOW – Your neighborhood is ready for Christmas. We had snow on Halloween, but no sign of it in December so far…
We haven’t had any snow here since the middle of November…at least none that is sticking. We’re all hoping for A white Christmas, though!
Beautiful pictures, Courtney. He has stunning eyes.
