The older I get, the more I realize that life has less to do with the “things” we own, the money we make, the cars we drive and the people we usually don’t like but worry about anyway try to impress. I realize that life is less about those kinds of things, and more about the simple things. The things that matter.
Like the yellow roses my husband bought me for my birthday…
Life is less about the messes that are made, and more about the moments we remember.
Like eating cookie dough with my Baseball Playing baby boy…
Life is less about “perfection” and the “right way” to do something or capture something (photographically speaking), and more about just doing it and not worrying about whether it’s right or wrong.
Like snapping photos of the little guy. He doesn’t always need to be looking, and the picture doesn’t always have to have the perfect lighting or even (sometimes) the perfect focus…
Life is about more than the rain and the dreariness and the not-so-perfect things that happen, and more about the little accidents, the snippets of good that are brought out by all of the hard times and the frustration that life can bring our way.
Sometimes, I just feel like we—well, I spend too much time focusing on the rules, the right and wrong way of doing things, and forget to focus on what truly matters. The simple things. The minute, basic, sometimes-overlooked things.
There’s too much anticipating and looking ahead, and not enough living the “now” in our society. And I love when I am able to sit back, relax, and just be in the moment.
I got a lot of that this weekend, and I’m hoping to add more of it to my lifestyle as the days and weeks go by.

I’ve said this a lot lately. Mostly regarding what’s important – blogging, editing vs. playing with my kids. Before I know what happened, they’ll be off to college and I won’t be able to get these moments back. They’re only little once. Great pictures, great post!
You’re so right. I’m having a hard time coming to terms with the realization that Noah is almost 3. I can’t figure out where these last almost three years have gone. Why do they grow up so FAST?!
Considering how WONDERFUL it is to be “in the moment”… why is it so difficult??! Oh, and those roses… so beautiful. Well done to your hubs. 🙂 And happy birthday to you!!! Hope it was LOVELY. xx
Thank you! I can’t for the life of me figure out why something so SIMPLE can be so hard to do! 🙂
This is sort of a new concept for me, to just be, live in the now moment and not care about right or wrong because I am somewhat of a perfectionist and used to be very self-conscious. Great job on the photo collages here; really a beautiful post!
Thank you so much. It’s a new idea to me, too. But it’s one that I’m insistent on carrying out. 🙂
This is such a beautiful post. I love your pictures and your message.
Thank you!! 🙂 Hope you are having a wonderful week so far!
A lot of your bio applies to me to. In fact I am eating Ben and Jerry ‘s as I type this.
Lovely photos and perfect story to accompany them.
Thank you, Stasha! Cookie Dough is my favorite. In fact, now that you mention it, I think I’ll go enjoy some myself.
Those photos are just beautiful!! And i couldn’t agree more with what your saying, it is so important just to stay abit in the moment and just enjoy life.
Thank you!! 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful day!

My motto in life…..Life Happens, so Live it!
Thank you, Erin! I need to write that motto down and tape it to my wall. 🙂 SO true!
Nicely put. What a great reminder to slow down and enjoy the ride.
