I told you guys a couple of weeks ago that we had finally made the decision to adopt (a dog that is). We went to the animal shelter, looked at several dogs, but none of them were quite right for our family. Right before Easter, the husband got word from some guys that he works with that there was a guy here on base with a Black Lab he was looking to get rid of. His seven month old son was allergic and they were getting ready to move to back to North Carolina. We didn’t know it, but this family lives right behind us.
Last Saturday, the hubs went over to visit with this guy and get to know the dog. He spent about an hour over there, and came home with a big smile: “We found our dog.” Easter Sunday, we got up and got the little guy dressed and took him over to meet his new friend. He was excited and eager to start playing ball with her. She walked right up to him, gave him a kiss and let him play with and pet her. We didn’t expect to bring her home that day, but we ended up adding her to our family on Easter Sunday.
We lucked out. Really. She’s 4 1/2 years old, so she’s past her overly-rambunctious and playful stage, but still young enough to run and play with the little guy during the day. She’s fully housebroken and trained. She already knows how to sit, stay, heal, roll over, shake, and lay down. She even does this cute gun trick where you say “bang” and she falls down. She’s taken to our family very quickly and has adapted to our home without hesitation. She’s such a sweet dog…a big ole baby, really. She loves to snuggle, loves to be petted and rubbed, and adores playing fetch (which works out perfectly for us because you guys all know how much my son loves to play ball).
Tessa has been the perfect addition to our little family. She sleeps in mine and the hubs room at night (on my side of the bed, by the way), she doesn’t mess with anything that isn’t hers, and she follows the little guy around outside like a guard. We already love this sweet girl to pieces. And I’m excited to watch her and little man grow up together.
