Can you guys believe that this little dumpling is two months old already?
Actually, he’s two months and a week old, but who’s keeping count?
This last month has been a good one. We’ve started to settle in to being a family of four and everything is falling into place. I finally got over the multiple cases of mastitis I kept battling and even figured out what was triggering it. And more than anything, we’ve fallen even more in love with this little boy (if that was even possible).
Jonah had his two month checkup last week. He’s off the charts in weight and head circumference. What can I say? We make big brained, chubby babies. Right now, he’s 13 lbs 12 oz (90th percentile) and a 16.5 inch head (98th percentile). He’s only in the 54th percentile for height, measuring only 23 inches. Not that I’m even remotely concerned. He’s actually measuring right along side of his brother at that age. There were only a few ounces and millimeters difference between Noah’s height and weight at two months old and Jonah’s.
We’ve reached a normalcy and schedule with breastfeeding. I’ve reached the point where it doesn’t ache or hurt in any way any more. He’s eating between every two or two and a half hours for about seven to 10 minutes at a time. Usually he only takes one side at a time, but that seems to be working for us. He’s a quick eater and is always pacified when he’s finished. The only issue we have is a minor milk intolerance. If I drink milk or eat ice cream or intake too much dairy, it results in a massive projectile spit-up session the next day. So, mama just keeps the dairy to a minimum. Which is hard. Because I love milk.
Personality wise, his little demeanor is starting to shine. He loves to smile and coo and talk to us. But he is not digging this whole “I’m the baby” phase that he’s in. He sees his brother up and running around and he’s dying to do the same. Being swaddled? Laying in the swing? Tummy time? No thanks. He’s much prefer laying in the floor grasping at his brothers toys and watching Noah play or having someone hold him up to see what’s going on around him. He loves to be held so that he’s “standing” instead of laying down or sitting. And he doesn’t like to sit reclined. He wants to sit straight up, like a big kid. It cracks me up because he’s like a little man trapped inside this chubby baby body.
He’s becoming a pretty good sleeper and has had several 5 1/2 hour nights and even one 7 1/2 hour stretch (after two days of refusing to nap). On the days that Noah’s in school, he sleeps from the time we leave to take him to preschool (at 8:30) until 11:00 when I have to wake him to feed him, else he freaks out in the car on the way over. Most nights he’s in bed by 9:00, usually closer to 8:30ish. I nurse him to sleep every night and absolutely adore “our” time before bed. He’s still sleeping in the swing in our room, though we’re getting ready to make the jump to the crib. Eventually. Ahem. When I decide I’m ready to let him.
He rolled over for the first time the other day from his back to his belly. And he’s ticklish. So ticklish on his belly and his feet. He hasn’t figured out how to laugh yet, so when you tickle him he holds his breath, turns pink and then smiles when you stop. It’s the cutest thing. He’s teething early like Noah did. I kept thinking that he was trying to figure out how to suck his thumb, so I bought him $50 worth of pacifiers trying to get him to take one of those. Turns out he’s not sucking, he’s chewing.
Noah’s first tooth broke through the gums at 3 months, so I expect Jonah to be the same way. I ordered him a Sophie Giraffe (much to everyone’s recommendation) to see if he’d take it and he’s slowly trying to figure it out. I’m also considering an Amber necklace after our doctor recommended it and lots of you on Facebook said they were miracle workers.
He loves to play and watch his brother wander around the house. I love to watch the two of them interact with each other and watch them build a relationship. Noah is still head over heels fascinated and loving his baby brother. He asks about him all the time, he’s the first person he says good morning to in the last person he says goodnight to. He tells him about his days at school and makes sure that we never forget a blanket or burp rag or toy when we go out. And Jonah? He loves to be held by daddy when he gets home in the afternoons and be put to sleep by mommy at night. And it’s no question that he is loved by everyone in this house.
My heart? It’s so full.
oh he’s so squishy i love it 🙂
[…] He smiles, he coos…he’s generally happy with the little life that he’s living. His days are almost completely scheduled out now and things are good for him. He’s a bit cranky here and there, but […]
I am wondering what you found to cause your mastitis? I had the same thing with my first and my second is on the way.
Aw, he’s just a doll! Love those chubby cheeks. So cute. Glad he’s sleeping better for you – 5 1/2 hour stretches are so nice!
Oh my goodness, look at that cutie! I am so happy to hear that everything is falling into place for you. Enjoy this time. You know it goes so quickly.
He is precious Courtney!
what a sweet sweet little babe you have. make the jump to the crib when you are good and ready. mine never did 🙂 Yay for two months and all the milestones along the way!
Aw, he’s gorgeous, look at his cheeks!! He looks so much like Noah.
My #2 was the same – never happy to just lie there, always wanting to be in on the action. It’s not wonder he got mobile at 3 months, and hasn’t stopped since. I think Jonah will be the same. 🙂
