We’re still right at three months shy of Little Man’s third birthday. Most days I find it completely impossible to believe that he’s gone from this:
To this:
So soon.
I think the reality that he was growing up hit me the other day on the way home from Walmart. We’d made a random trip, just to get out of the house and have something to do and were driving down the road listening to Jason Aldean.
There was nothing out of the ordinary about the moment. Nothing special about the day. Just an ordinary drive home. Little Man was being quiet in the back seat, so I assumed he had dozed off a bit. When I turned around, I saw that he wasn’t sleeping at all. He was just sitting there, looking out the window thoughtfully. He had his right leg crossed over his left knee and he looked like he had a million things on his mind.
When he noticed I was looking at him, he smiled sweetly and said simply, “Hey Mommy! What you doing?”
When did he start communicating so…maturely?
When did he start piecing together his thoughts and words and sentences so perfectly?
I know I didn’t miss it, because he just started talking, what…yesterday?
The fact of the matter is, he’s not a baby anymore. I mean, he’ll always be my baby, but he’s not an infant. He’s not a tiny little baby that can’t communicate his feelings or emotions. He’s barely a toddler anymore.
My sweet little baby is growing up. He’s turning into a full fledge little boy.
A dirty, sweaty, stinky little boy who picks boogers, wipes his hands on the couch, and drops his food on the floor and calls the dog over to clean it up. He hides snacks in his room, he sleeps with just a shirt on, and hates to wear socks. He picks out his shirts and his shoes; he helps get himself dressed. He tells me when he needs to potty. And he’s getting ready to start Pre School in October.
It’s safe to say that I’ve entered the realm of being a boy mom.
I hope I’m ready for this.

He is adorable.. both his baby picture and now as a 3 year old boy! My baby boy turned 11 in May.. how is that for sad? It’s amazing how quickly they grow and change… but it is great and wonderful to see them blossom into amazing people.. and we get to witness it all.
I agree. Watching him grow is the biggest blessing. I sit back and wonder sometimes what I did to deserve that opportunity. 🙂
I love your blog girlie! And yes. Our kids grow up wayyyy too fast!! Your son is adorable!
Thanks, Shey! 🙂 That feeling is most definitely mutual.
That’s exactly when I sit up and take notice of just how far Presley has come. She communicates so effectively for a 2 year old that it’s insane and scary.
It’s definitely scary. But it’s exciting at the same time to watch them learn to grasp concepts and thoughts. But, I’m sure he’ll reach that “I know more than mommy” mode soon enough and it won’t be so cute anymore.
What a cutie! I can’t believe how fast they grow.
Me either. It seems like it should be moving much slower than it is.
I’m right there with you with this “boy mom” stuff. I need to learn to like dirt and LOTS of noise. Great shots!
YES! Lots and lots and LOTS of noise. It seems par for the course with a little boy. LOL
From that cute gummy smile to that determined run…it’s amazing. Your description of his riding in thought says so much. I always wonder what little kids are thinking about when they’re quiet.
I wish I knew, sometimes! 🙂 He’s probably thinking that his mommy is a nutcase and he wishes she would stop shoving the camera in his face. Haha!
He’s so cute! It’s amazing how fast time goes by, isn’t it? I know it’s cliche, but seriously? So. Fast. I wish we could freeze time and keep them small and home with us all the time!
Girl, you’re telling me. It seems like I blinked and now he’s knocking on three years old.
Awww he’s adorable! Smart too that he calls the dog over to clean up his mess! haha
Oh yeah! That’s a lesson I’m kind of glad he’s learned. It sure saves on the clean up time! 🙂 Ha!
Wow….he was a CUUUUUUUUUUUTE baby! We all know he’s a darling little toddler, but I didn’t know him as a babe 🙂 But man it flies by huh??
Thank you! I was pretty partial to his little chubbiness as a baby. 🙂 I wrote about him a lot as a baby, but I think most of those posts have been lost in the archives. 🙂 And YES time flies too fast!
