This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He’s probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby’s kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy. Total weight gain:
28-30 pounds. Give or take…
Sleep:
Sleep is here and there. I have good nights and bad nights. I’m reaching that point where I have to get up to pee every hour or hour and a half. Getting in and out of bed is a pain (literally). Rolling over hurts, sitting up hurts, attempting to get comfortable hurts. Baby boy is very obviously growing and there are nights when I can’t comfortably lay on my side because it forces his tiny little elbows and knees into my side (which…surprise surprise…also hurts).
Best moment of the last week:
We had our first (and only as far as we know) baby shower yesterday! My friend Jessica did a fabulous job with the shower and we received so much from our friends and “family away from family” here in Kodiak. I’ll get some photos posted this week! But for now, here’s a little peak at the “little man” themed shower:
Movement:
Jonah man is still very active. I am noticing some slowing of his movement (thanks to the fact that he’s getting bigger and bigger) but his jabs and pokes and punches are strong. Like I mentioned last week, he moves much more than Noah does. I’m starting to pick up on his sleep and awake pattern. He’s much more active after about 8:30 or 9:00, but I’m noticing less movement in the middle of the night than I was a few weeks ago. Hopefully he’s sleeping for longer periods at night? We’ll know soon enough!
Food cravings:
Raisin Nut Bran (again with the cereal) and fruit. Mostly grapes and green apples. Other than that, I’m just enjoying food in general.
Food aversions:
Nothing as of late!
Symptoms:
I think I’ve got a little bit of everything going on right now as far as symptoms go. Aching back here and there (though I can say that this aspect of pregnancy has eased off a bit, thank goodness). Stretching and pulling in my hips and stomach. Increased appetite on occasion. Increased sense of smell (seriously…this has been CRAZY as of lately). Hot flashes have been the newest addition. I can’t sit in a warm bath for more than a few minutes before I feel like I’m in a sauna and drying my hair? An absolute nightmare.
Noah’s 4th Birthday! Still can’t believe my baby boy is going to be four. We’re still debating whether to have a Spiderman, Batman or (as of this week) a Thomas the Train party. And I won’t even mention the debacle over Halloween costumes.
Our Maternity Pictures! We didn’t have maternity photos made when I was pregnant with Noah, so I’m looking forward to some good family photos to document what legitimately could be my last pregnancy. Those are coming up October 21!
What I miss:
Not having to get up three+ times per night to pee. Though, I know it’s only going to get worse before it gets better.
Next Appointment:
Thursday, September 27.
