This week was as busy as the others for us. Husband had duty yesterday, little man and I had a play date, and (wait for it)…
The Sun has been SHINING.
Which is a very RARE even here in Kodiak. We’ve taken full advantage of the sunshine, and I’ve been out with our jogging stroller for a few walks and love it. This place would be heaven for us if the sun would shine more often…oh, and if there was a Target. And an Olive Garden.
Ahem.
Anyway. Here are my favorite reads for this week! Make sure you check them out!
Things the Books don’t Tell You by Robin @ Farewell Stranger: This post absolutely had me rolling. Little Man never ceases to amaze me, crack me up, or puzzle me…and this post proved that I’m not completely alone in the fact that sometimes,I just don’t understand my child.
Parenting in the Digital Ageby Theta Mom: Let’s face it—Technology is here to stay. And most likely, so is social media. But does that mean that we shouldn’t raise our children with enough intelligence to carry on a “normal” face-to-face conversation? This is a more serious post, but it’s definitely worth reading and thinking about. How are your technological habits impacting your kids? Are you teaching them how to communicate without a screen or a keyboard?
Through Clenched Teeth by Kimberly @ Mama’s Monologues: Oh. my. Goodness. If you’re in need of a good laugh, go read this. We’ve all been there. We’ve all been that parent standing in the line at Target or the Grocery Store and the batty old ladies who raised children during the stone age give you those looks and offer up their advice on what your child needs. Kimberly addresses these issues, and spills what she would really like to say to those folks when they off up “advice.”
Parenting Do’s & Don’ts (Part Two)by Shell @ Things I Can’t Say: Like I told Shell in the comments, I wish that I’d had this as a book when I was getting ready to birth Little Man. Too many moms are afraid to let their imperfections be known and act as if they have it all together. No mom is perfect, and most of us are a few crayon’s short of a box most days. This list is the second part of this series, and I encourage you read them. They are both humorous and HONEST.
How to Use Google Reader in Real Format by I Heart Faces: This is the tutorial that is going to save your blogging sanity. Now that I’m on WordPress, I do all of my blog reading in Google Reader. It is CRAZY frustrating to go to my reader, pull up the blogs, click the link, read the blog, and THEN comment (Because, of course, you can’t comment from within Google Reader. That would be too easy and actually make sense). THIS is the best thing. Ever. You can drag a little button to your menu bar, click it, and it will take you to the ACTUAL blog instantly. Best of all? When you are ready for a new blog, just click the button again, and another blog from your reader pops up. Seriously. Go do this. Now.
And in case you missed any of my posts this week, here are my favorites:
Great Expectations: My post on whether or not I (and people in generally) expect too much out of others and out of life. Ultimately, our life outcome and path is determined by God and his will for our lives, but sometimes, his timing is just hard to accept and understand.
Where I’m From: I originally got the idea for this post from Playgroups are No Place for Children. There is so much about our personalities and characteristics that can be credited back to the place we grew up. Television and movies always want to down the South and poke fun at us Southerners…especially those of us from Alabama (ummm…hello? Forrest Gump? Sweet Home Alabama?)but there is no where else I’d rather have grown up.

Hi Courtney! Thanks for featuring my post – I’ve just seen this now 🙂
Will check out the others too – they sound great!
