awesome tips 🙂 This is why I restarted my blog, so that I could start fresh and write my own thing instead of letting others tell me what to write. 🙂

Agree with all these and especially the captcha thing. Oh, and little blinky avatars. You’re 35. You need this why? Ha! Great post!

    Amen sister!!!

  6. THANK you for putting those bloody word verifications at the top. CAPTCHA is my ENEMY. Also, it makes blogger reject nonblogger IDs.

I think the one that gets me is lazy spelling and grammar. I’m not talking about excluding bloggers who don’t speak English as a first language. And God knows I’m not slamming the odd typo. I have yet to come to an ESL blog and find the grammar off-putting, even though it is frequently nonstandard. Indeed, sometimes, that can enhance the reading and really bring out an author’s voice. I’m talking about extraordinary writers who use lay for lie. Or the blogs that consistently use whether for weather because the author couldn’t be bothered to look it up.

I’ve noticed that in the past, too. It’s a headache just to even SEE a captcha. And I agree wholeheartedly with spelling and grammar laziness. I think the worst is the really long run-on sentences that don’t end. I’m not one to critique grammar very often, because Lord knows I make typos and dozens of grammatically incorrect sentences all the time. But misusing their, there and they’re or something drives me NUTS. There is spell check on blogs now days. USE IT.

  7. Jessica says:

A great list of “don’t” I agree with them all. I can’t stand a constantly negative blogger or tweeter.

    • Courtney says:

It really does take away from the joy of blogging/tweeting/sharing doesn’t it? I love for someone to share their heartache, but constantly dwelling on everything that is wrong in life? There has to be a silver lining somewhere.
