12 weeks 2 days! Bye, bye first Trimester (depending on which date you go by…in which case I’m going by the date of my LMP)!
The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby’s brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce. (via Baby Center)
Not sure about the weight gain. I had only gained one pound before we left Kodiak and my appointment is next Tuesday. So we’ll see how much the dining out and trips to Marble Slab & Baskin Robins have impacted my weight gain.
Sleeping okay when I actually sleep. I’m waking up every two to three hours to go to the bathroom. I thought that was supposed to stop after the first trimester? I think it’s gotten worse. But, when I sleep, I sleep deep.
Yep. Like I mentioned last week, I don’t really have to wear Maternity pants, but they are much more comfortable right now than regular jeans and the belly band. The pair that I bought are a little big because my belly isn’t quite big enough to really need them, but I haven’t worn regular jeans since I bought my maternity pants and don’t plan to. Whoever said these things weren’t comfy was lying. I am still wearing regular shirts, but I’m particular about which ones.
Hmmm…nothing baby related this week really. Bought a few gender neutral onesies for the baby and made a trip to Babies-R-Us. I’d have had much more fun in there if I knew whether this little bean was a boy or a girl. Mother’s Day was great! We had breakfast/brunch at IHOP and dinner at Olive Garden. Husband & Little Man bought me an iPhone (which is waiting for me back in Kodiak when we get there!) and I picked up a cover for my MacBook. I (reluctantly) bought an Otterbox for my iPhone, but I’m in debate as to how much I’ll use it. All of you iPhone-rs out there, what case do you use?
Not craving anything, really. I’m back to that phase of not being able to find anything that I really want. I’m hungry all the time, but nothing (and I really mean nothing) sounds appetizing. I eat because I have to but despite all of the yummy food here in Anchorage, I’m not finding much that I really want to munch on. I am, however, craving Ice Water. Really, really cold water. That’s got to be a good thing, right?
Still no aversions. Just a general “I can’t find anything I like” kind of mood.
Don’t know yet…What do you think?
Hearing the baby’s heartbeat at our next appointment and I’m slightly looking forward to going back home. I’d give anything for “home” to be somewhere other than Kodiak, but we can’t really change that. I miss my bed and my pillows and my own bathroom. I really do hate living out of hotels and places that aren’t mine. It’ll be nice to be back in our space.
Missing not having to buy clothes based around a growing belly. But, I think that’s only because we’re in Anchorage and there are lots of places to shop. 🙂 Thankfully, there are lots of places to buy Maternity clothes here, too, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much.
May 22.
Being in Anchorage has definitely worn me out. I knew that when we got here we’d go nonstop; shopping and eating and basically just enjoying life away from Kodiak. I haven’t reached my limit on how many times I can go to Target yet, so I still have a few more trips planned before we head out. But, as with all vacations, it will be nice to be back in our house and on a normal schedule.
SO CUTE!!! Goodness it’s flying by already (ok, for me at least!!) Wish I could manage a trip to Anchorage to see my inlaws and we could shop at target together!!
Looking good, mama!
You look so cute! Congrats on getting past the first trimester 🙂 xo
I was also reluctant to buy an Otterbox because I wanted a pretty case. . . but now I am SO glad that I have my Otterbox. It has saved my iPhone 4s from drool, dropping, water splashes, and toddler teeth, as well as the occasional food smear (ick!). Yay for being in your 2nd trimester! Your baby belly is just so cute- you’re absolutely glowing and seem so happy! 🙂
Hey Courtney!
Glad you are enjoying/ everything sounds like it is going well for you & babybump #2 and your trip to Anchorage. We went to Anchorage lately and ate at “The Moose’s Tooth” and they have great food ~ my 2nd choice with Olive Garden being my 1st 🙂 If you are looking for something that might sound good they have excellent chicken wings there! I love reading your updates and I pray that everything continues well for you!
Awe you look so beautiful Courtney!!! I love reading your updates 🙂 And I’m with you on the ice water. It’s the only way I’ll drink water these days which is completely opposite of me before. Before I’d just drink it room temp. But I gag if I drink it even remotely warmer than ice cold. 🙂
OMG! I ♥ your bump, its just too cute! And I LOVE my Otterbox, it does make the iPhone seem a little bulky at first, but the added protection is great.
You’re looking wonderful!
Otterbox Defender is a must in this house. I’m on my third iPhone and I have to suck it up! The otterbox for the 4 is way better than for the 3. Slimmer. Still, not as slim and sleek as just the phone. But it’s not so sleek when it’s busted up, I’ve come to learn.
Cute bump!
Such a cute bump!!
