If you were to ask anyone that knows me personally, they would tell you that I was an “old soul.” One of those people who are wise beyond their years and whatnot. Despite the fact that I’ve not even hit the mid-twenties mark of life, I’ve always been a little more…mature, than a lot of people my age. Maybe it was upbringing and the circumstances that surrounded my life and my childhood. Maybe it’s because I just never had a desire to be an immature teenager [unless you count my Freshman Year of college rebellion…and I think that was more or less my way of trying to prove that I could be cool and hip and all that].
But at nearly 24 years old, I’ve gathered that there are a few definite’s in life…things that are for certain and that I don’t question, doubt or even worry about trying to change. These things, I know for sure…
Nothing is permanent and change is inevitable. It doesn’t matter how hard you fight it, how badly you wish it was different…change does happen and you can’t stop it.
Just because the law labels you an adult because of your age doesn’t mean that you are an adult and should be making adult decisions. Choices like getting married and having babies shouldn’t be rushed into on a whim just because you think that it’s the right thing to do. [Seriously…these chicks who get pregnant and whatnot for the sake of MTV and a shot at Teen Mom’s…]
Bad things happen. And most of the time, they happen to good people. Good people get killed, tragedy strikes the lives of those we love, and natural disasters devastate nations. That’s life. You can either allow yourself to wallow in it and be miserable OR you can get up, dust yourself off, and deal with it. The world doesn’t stop for your misery.
Similarly, the way that you handle circumstances ultimately determines the kind of person you are going to become and the way people see you. You can either be “that person” who doesn’t know how to move forward and let go of the past, or you can be the person that thrives and goes beyond the negative to make the best of everything.
One day, you will find a person that makes everything okay. A person who loves you and adores you and supports you no matter what. A person that makes you wonder why on EARTH you ever thought you could or should be with anyone different.
Likewise, one day you are going to discover what it is that you were always meant to do…and when you do? There is nothing else you’ll be able to concentrate on. You’ll spend every waking hour wondering how you can improve, how you can be better, and how you can reach the pinnacle of your dreams.
What about you? What are some of the things that you’ve learned and know for SURE about life? Did you learn these things the hard way, or did they fall into your lap painlessly?
