In honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, would you take a second to click on the button and give us a thumbs up? We’ve been nominated as one of the Top 25 Military Family Blogs and I would appreciate you helping us get there!
I married a committed military man. And I have loved this military life. I have also had to put my personal opinions aside, to truly understand that our defenders of freedom are fighting a bigger battle. Not a political one, there battle goes beyond politics. Beyond religion, race or gender. There the defenders for us all. There the defenders of our differences. As one soldier is taken away from us, another returns to us. There’s balance in the universe, a natural system of order. Look beside each soldier and you will find the people who fight with them. The spouses, the sons the daughters the families, we serve too.
Their victories are our victories, there defeats are our defeats.
Together we fight for our freedom…Human life isn’t about perfection, it is about accepting the flawed, the misguided parts of ourselves. We keep trying, we keep loving, we keep believing. I am proud of the role we play in maintaining piece in our country and in the world.
I am proud to stand beside a man whose integrity shines like a diamond in the dust.
And I am proud to call myself a military wife.
(Adapted from Season One: Episode Five of Lifetime’s Army Wives)
Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. It’s ironic that it falls right beside Mother’s Day. These two days mark the significance of the two most important roles I play in life…a Wife to a Man who is brave enough to fight for our freedom on a daily basis, and a mother. Being a military spouse, isn’t a role that I ever dreamed I would play. But now that I’m here…now that I’m a part of this proud military family and lifestyle, I wouldn’t change it for anything.
The military men and women who stand beside our soldiers, are some of the proudest you will ever meet. We pack and move at the drop of a hat…going wherever the Government tells us. We leave behind family and friends to follow our men in uniform to the place they are needed most. We learn to accept our spouse missing major holidays and events, like Christmases and birthdays. We learn the lingo and how to properly prepare the uniforms. At times, we become the mistress, while the military gets to be the wife. We hold down the fort when our loved ones are deployed; we play the role of single parent for large amounts of time. We bare the weight and the burdens of a country at war with dignity and with pride.
Because that’s the life we chose.
Every military family knows the sacrifices that might be made in this line of duty. We all recognize that at some point in our military careers, our loved ones will be gone. They’ll be out of our reach, out of our grasp.
But we do it anyway.
Because we love our country.
And we love our soldiers. And we are proud to bare the label: Military Spouse.
To all of my fellow military wives, I salute all of you. Our jobs are not easy, and most of the time go unnoticed. But I’m proud to say that I’m part of your community; a sister to many in this life we’ve chosen.
