In Honor of Valentines Day, Mama M is hosting this fun little blog hop where we get to talk all about love and romance and all that mushy gushy stuff. Today she’s asking how we met our significant other.
Well….let’s see.
It was July 2008, I had just started a new job as Patient Care Tech. in the ICU at our local hospital. I had been training on first shift for almost 2 weeks and had never even seen the would be hubby. We were nearing the end of the first shift; I was unbelievably tired and overwhelmed with the amount of crap I was having to learn. I had heard alot about Josh from a friend of mine who was a nurse in the unit, but I’d yet to meet him. I wasn’t overly worried or, to be honest, even interested because at that point in life I had sworn off men…basically forever.
About 2:50 or so, I saw a guy come in. He was wearing the required ugly hunter green scrubs and an Alabama Baseball Hat. He came in and propped up on the counter behind me and started talking to one of the nurses. {This is where the hubby would interject that I was hooked already..I beg to differ. Haha.} I noticed him looking at me. And I’m pretty sure he was asking the nurse who I was. When it came time to give report, he came over, introduced himself, asked who I was and shook my hand.
That was the last day I had on first shift, so the next Monday, I started working with him 3 or 4 nights a week. I had to spend 2 weeks of training on days and then supposedly 2 weeks of training on my shift. Guess who did my training? 🙂 Hubby went about 2 months before he really started to let me know he was interested. I needed some help learning heart rhythms and hubby used this as the perfect opportunity to get my number. He asked for my phone number so that he could “call me and bring it to me.” {Not like we didn’t work together every night…} I gave it to him because I was finding him to be a really nice guy and thought that we had a lot in common.
That same night, after giving him my number, he called me leaving work. That was the start of everything. from then on, he called me every night and talked to me until we got home. We discovered that we had a lot in common and shared the same values and beliefs on just about everything. On November 4, we went on our first date {the local fair to a Jeff Bates concert.} We have been together ever since….getting engaged on February 23, 2009 and married on April 19, 2009.
I can honestly say that I remember the exact moment that I fell in love with hubby and realized that he was the one I was going to spend the rest of my life with. During the concert on our first date, Jeff Bates was singing “Long, Slow Kisses” and hubby had his arms around me. I leaned by head back against his chest and he kissed my cheek and that was that. I was hooked and I knew that I had never felt for anyone else what I felt for Josh.
I still wonder how on Earth I got so lucky…
Love you handsome! You’re the best and I don’t know what I’d do without you.
