I am so happy that you had the courage to post this. As a teenager and young adult, I was in the same boat as you.. Drinking and drugs, abusive relationships. I met someone who I thought was The One. He ended up trying to kill me three weeks before our wedding. I was five and a half months pregnant with his child. It wasn’t until after my first daughter was born that I was saved, and I praise Him every day for preserving my life long enough to realize how great was my need for His grace, love, strength, and salvation. I too moved on and found an amazing man. We married recently, even though our relationship is difficult, because I find that I still carry my past hurts around with me, with the same certainty that he would eventually leave me, too. I hate the person that I once was, even though being that person is what has made me into who I am today. I’m finding reasons to like her a little bit more every day. I was so ecstatic to stumble onto your blog, where your faith is both so evident and so subtle. Once again, thank you for sharing; it is so nice to know that someone else has been where I’ve been, and is also working to put all the broken pieces of herself back together again.
