The Mom Cave

Men have been talking about them for what seems like centuries; my husband swoons [okay, so men don’t really swoon, but you know what I mean] over the idea of a 55” plasma, a big comfy couch and every gaming system known to man right at his finger tips. Oh and did I mention that he swoons dreams of having this area all to himself? Stick a mini-fridge in there, a pool table, and a few hundred dozen cases of Spaghetti & Meatballs and some Ramen and he’d be good to go. Yep. Ladies, I’m talking about the man cave.

Somehow, someway, some one decided that men needed their own place of solitude. For whatever reason their job and position in life deems them worthy in need of their own place. Not saying that my husband doesn’t work hard or anything like that before any men who read this go getting their feathers all ruffled. But what about us moms? Turns out I’m not the first one to have this thought. There is a new and trending thing right now called A MOM cave. Heck Yes! Where can I sign up for one of those? A branch of NBC recently wrote an article about it that you find here where they label it as:

. "The ‘mom cave’ is for the mom, and no one else is allowed in there.”

Who is digging that idea? A place with no memos and reminders of all the things that we need to do; no menus to plan; no meals to cook; no butts noses to wipe? Sounds like a tiny little slice of heaven to me. If I could design my own “mom cave,” I can conjure up only one idea of what I’d want it to look like.

Because let’s face it. Mom’s never catch a moment of solitude. There is no such thing as “peace and quite” and in all honesty, I would probably use my “mom cave” as an office anyway. I’d love to have a place where I could just go and have all of my stuff laid out and organized the way that I wanted. I’d love to paint it in the shades that I admire. I’d love these things to keep it neat and tidy:

I fill the walls with beautiful photos; have stacks and stacks and stacks of books, magazines and scrapbook pages. I’d have candles and aroma therapy scents all over the place. I’d have my own comfy couch and a color palette that resembled this:

Oh if only…
