I haven’t posted a recipe here in a long time. I told myself that I was going to start posting one once a week, and yea, that didn’t happen. But in the Spirit of Christmas time, I am going to share with you some of my favorites! These are some of the things that we always used to have at home or at my grandparents house. {Most of them actually came from my grandmothers’ recipe books, so you know they are good!} Enjoy!
Homemade Cheese Straws
1 pound shard cheddar cheese {grated}
1 teaspoon water
1/2 pound butter or margaring {2 sticks}
2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper or tabasco
Bring butter and cheese to room temperature. Mix with Electric mixer at medium speed. Add flour, pepper, and water. Mix Well. Rol dough into walnut size balls and place on cookie sheet. Flatten with a floured fork [you can also press them out with a cookie press]. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes or until light brown and crisp.

These make really great teacher gifts! My sister and I used to give them every Christmas and they always LOVED them:
Cinnemon Mocha Mix
1- 16 oz. jar non-dairy powder creamer
1- 16 oz. package of chocolate mix for milk
1- 16 oz. package of confectioners sugar
6 cups non fat dry milk powder
1/2 cup of cocoa
1/4 cup instant coffee of choice
2 teaspoons ground cinnemon
Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container,
To serve:
Pour 6 oz. hot water over 2 1/4 Tablespoons mocha mix and stir well.
{Note: We used to combine them in layers in jars, wrap them with a bow or a ribbon, and type the recipe on a tag to attach to the jar. Very cheap and very SIMPLE gift idea if you are needing one!}

These are just a few of the recipes that make is feel like Christmas time around our house. My Granny was a fantastic cook and this was her favorite time of the year. She loved to bake sweets and give them to everyone she knew. Her kitchen was in a constant uproar during the holidays because she baked all the time! If you use any of these, please let me know how they turn out! What are some of your families favorite holiday treats and meals? Feel free to share!
