I’ve been thinking about time management a lot lately. When I first started blogging, I never intended that it would become something of a non-paying career. I didn’t think that I would have anyone who was interested in reading what I had to say, especially after I realized that most of our family (who I initially started blogging for) didn’t read it either. But somewhere along the way, people did. I started with five followers…and then five became 25, 25 became 100, 100 became 300…and it continues to grow.
But with a growing blog, comes growing expectations. Expectations to continue to put out fresh and fabulous content, expectations to tweet off and on all day long…it’s exhausting. Throw in reading the 100+ blogs that I follow daily within my reader and the 25-30 new bloggers that find me and comment on my blog on a weekly basis, and I find myself with little time for anything else.
So it’s time for me to revamp my schedule a little bit. The way that I’m working right now just isn’t cutting it. I spend an hour or so in the mornings before the little guy gets up reading and studying the Word, and then I spend almost all of my morning after that reading blogs, commenting, etc. After lunch, when Little Man naps, I find myself sucked back into my computer writing new posts for the week. Which leaves me with little time to do much else (like clean my house, work on my Elements of Editing workbook, shoot new photographs, etc.).
All that to say, that I’m taking the week off. I have a post prepared for Wednesday so that Project 16:9 will continue on as planned. I need time to rework my schedule, get away from the “screen” for a while, and spend some time with my little guy and my husband. I have stacks of magazines that I haven’t read yet because I can’t find time, and a few books that I’d like to finish. That means, that I most likely won’t be visiting all of your blogs. I hate to leave you guys on a lurch, and I know that I am going to miss some great content while I’m gone, but you all know how time consuming blog reading can get. So if I’m going to revamp and make an effective dent in my time management issue, I’m going to have to put most of my blog reading on hold. If something really strikes me and I have a few extra minutes, I may skim through, but I’m not making any guarantees.
I just ask that you guys stick with me. I’m hoping that this week off will give me some fresh ideas, new content, and a much needed mental release. I’m sure I’ll be around Twitter on occasion, so you can find me there. Hope you guys have a wonderful, wonderful week! Don’t forget to join in with Project 16:9 (I will be reading and commenting on those posts for those of you who link up).
See you back next Monday!
